The easiest tell-tale for the second publishing is that the title cartouche is no longer red, but grey. The most significant change in most of the prints in that edition was the alteration of the signature: in all of them, the entire signature cartouche was removed, and replaced with a facsimile of the signature Yoshitoshi used toward the end of his life, along with a seal from that period.

Publisher: Matsuki Heikichi (Daikokuya)

Date: 1893

Condition: Very good impression and color. In 1875, Yoshitoshi was hired to illustrate a wide variety of news subjects in full color. These prints were added as supplements, or furoku, for subscribers. This variety of print is referred to as Newspaper Nishiki-e" (新 聞 錦 絵, shinbun nishiki-e). The publisher of the Yūbin hōchi shinbun was likely motivated by the success of his competitor, the Tokyo Daily News (Tōkyō Nichinichi Shinbun) where Yoshitoshi's rival, Yoshiiku, was employed as an artist.

Date: 1875

Condition: Very good color and condition, margins as shown, not backed.

http://www.yoshitoshi.net/series/shinbun.html

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0095/7602/2094/files/mg0949-Yoshitoshi-WickedForeigner-japanese-woodblock-print.jpg?v=1735420609
mg0955-yoshitoshi-a-lion-dancer-japanese-woodblock-print
Yoshitoshi - A Lion Dancer

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi

A lion dancer gets under a skirt at the New Yoshiwara.
