Musha-e

Musha-e (武者絵) means “images of warriors”, many times this means samurai. Musha-e started to become popular in the 18th century. During the 19th century, some of the famous musha-e artists were Kuniyoshi, and Kunisada. During the Meji period, nationalism grew and there was a resurgence in the history of Japanese warfare. Yoshitoshi produced several series of musha-e depicting generals and heroes of Japan. Other musha-e artists of that time were Chikanobu  and Yoshitora.
