He created thirty woodblock prints of the 1877 Satsuma Rebellion.  In 1878 he created nishiki-e shinbun (newspaper insert prints) for the Tokyo newspaper Choya shinbun 朝野新聞. In 1885 he moved to Kyoto where he worked as a newspaper illustrator.
