Shipping policy
Shipping to Germany
We ship every print ourselves from Los Angeles (USA). Each print is placed in acid-free paper, protected between stiff board and sent in a padded mailer. Framed prints are protected and packed securely in a box.
We ship with UPS or USPS. Parcels sent with USPS are delivered in Germany by Deutsche Post or DHL. Shipping costs are charged in addition to the purchase price. They depend on the shipping method and on the size and weight of the parcel, and are calculated at checkout for your delivery address. Example: for a parcel with three prints to Berlin, in October 2026 they came to about 30 EUR (USPS First-Class Package International) to 93 EUR (USPS Priority Mail Express International), depending on the shipping method; the UPS methods were about 37 to 48 EUR. You also see the available shipping methods and the exact costs for your order at checkout before you complete it. Prints from Kotondo have a flat shipping price of 75 USD per order, shown at checkout converted into euros (about 67 EUR in October 2026).
Most prints leave us within 48 hours. Import charges on delivery
Your order is imported from the USA into Germany. Import charges are not included in our prices. They are collected on import by German customs; the carrier or customs will ask you to pay them.
- Import VAT: for original prints (original woodblock prints) it is usually 7 %. It is calculated on the customs value of the goods plus any customs duty and the transport costs to the destination.
- Customs duty: the regular duty rate for original prints is 0 %. Since 1 July 2026, however, customs charges a flat duty of 3 EUR per category of goods on postal consignments (shipped with USPS) with a value of goods up to 150 EUR. When shipped with UPS, and for values of goods above 150 EUR, no customs duty is charged on original prints.
- Handling fee: expected from 1 November 2026, customs will additionally charge a handling fee on such consignments regardless of the value of the goods (2 EUR per category of goods under the current draft; not yet finally adopted).
- Carrier's fee: the carrier may charge its own additional fee for customs clearance, the amount of which it sets itself.
Examples (shipping to Germany, without the carrier's fee and without the handling fee):
- Print for 300 EUR, shipping 40 EUR: import VAT about 23.80 EUR (7 % of 340 EUR).
- Print for 120 EUR, shipping 25 EUR with USPS: 3 EUR customs duty and about 10.36 EUR import VAT (7 % of 148 EUR).
These amounts go to customs or the carrier, not to us.
