Justin & Xiaojing

This passionate pair of ukiyo-e collectors and entrepreneurs has spent the last two years curating an impressive collection of woodblock prints. Their pursuit isn't just about building their personal collection; they also meticulously search for specific prints that can be adapted into high-quality reprints for sale in their Etsy stores.

They have a particular affinity for Edo and Meiji-era artists like Chikanobu, Kuniyoshi, Toshikata, and Gekko, as well as the more modern Shin-hanga master, Tsuchiya Koitsu. One of their most surprising discoveries is how many of these prints were originally intended as disposable ephemera, yet it's remarkable how many originals have survived in such good condition.

For those new to collecting, they offer this advice:

"Don't rush or blindly follow trends. Also, steer clear of eBay unless you're well-versed in what you're doing. It's challenging to find authentic prints at a reasonable price there—too many fakes in our experience. If you're on a budget, start small. We began our journey with a set of 1911 Formosa Tea Company postcards and a few Tsuchiya Koitsu prints."

Explore their carefully curated reprints on Etsy. Their reprints are made on wide-format Epson printers, using archival inks and fine art paper.  Stay connected with Justin & Xiaojing through their Instagram: @old_parlor_prints. Be sure to visit their Etsy store: Old Parlor Prints.
