Utagawa Kuniyoshi
Tomoe Gozen from the series "One Hundred Biographies of High Renown" is one of the most famous female warriors in Japanese history. She is described in 'The Tale of the Heike' as being very beautiful with charming features, but what set her apart was her incredible strength, her remarkable skills as an archer and swordswoman. Tomoe-jo (written on the print as Tomoe, 鞆繪女) in armor adjusting her hair before a large mirror.
