Utagawa Hiroshige
Number 4, Izumi Province: Takashi Beach. Travellers follow the well-worn path to Takashi Shrine in the foreground as Osaka Bay stretches to the horizon. Far below the pine-covered slope, the waves lap against Takashi Beach, one of many religious sites along the coast. Beautiful bokashi shading technique applied to the expansive blue of Osaka Bay.
Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces" features sixty-nine prints, one for each of the sixty-six provinces of Japan, plus Edo and the two major islands. The series includes some of Hiroshige's most famous designs, such as his dramatic view of the whirlpools at Naruto.
