Keisai Eisen
This is a beautiful landscape print by Keisai Eisen from the series "Eight Views of Edo" called VIEW OF MOUNT TSUKUBA FROM THE SUMIDA RIVER. The view is from the Mimeguri Jinja, A Shinto shrine, which is on the banks of the Sumida River. I really like the perspective on this image. We see the gate of the shrine in the foreground, the people on the path, the boats, the village, the geese descending and Mount Tsukuba in the distance. Eisen was known for his prints of beautiful women but he was adept at landscape as well.
This print was "remargined" this means that someone cut the print down to the edge at one time to fit it into an album. Later, someone else pasted it onto some backing paper.
Condition: Remargined as shown, very good color, backed.
Date: 1843
Genre: Ukiyo-e
