Share
George Serban has a passion for Japanese art, and has been an avid Ukiyo-e collector for ten years. His impressive collection now includes around 2,000 works by 60 Edo and Meiji era artists. George is dedicated to making Ukiyo-e art known in his home country of Romania. He actively organizes exhibitions in museums in different Romanian cities. In the last 4 years he has organized 6 exhibitions of Japanese prints. On February 21, 2022 he will hold his latest exhibition of Meij Era prints at Brukenthal National Museum in Sibiu, Romania.
George's favorite artists include Harunobu, Sharaku, Toyokuni I, Utamaro, Hokusai, Kuniyoshi, Kunisada, Kunichika, Chikanobu, Yoshitoshi and others.
George's advice to novice collectors is to do what he did. First learn something about Japanese history and culture. After that, read catalogues from Japanese print exhibitions and attend gallery shows.
George is continuing to promote Ukiyo-e in Romania in order to increase it's popularity and visibility. At each of his exhibitions he produces a Catalogue/Album, which is distributed free of charge.
