Nishizawa Tekiho
Gosho ningyo, these childlike dolls are characterized by their chubby figures, fair skin, small hands and legs, their large heads, and simple eyes and noses. Nishizawa Tekiho 西沢 笛畝 was the son-in-law and adopted heir of Nishizawa Senko (1864-1914), a writer and collector of dolls and toys, Tekiho studied under Araki Kanpo (1831-1915) and Araki Jippo (1872-1944), a father-and son pair of Nihonga painters who specialized in bird-and-flower painting. He was most famous for his charming paintings of traditional dolls and, following in his adoptive father's footsteps, he became a serious collector of dolls.
