Yoshitoshi - Toshimitsu Saito

Yoshitoshi - Toshimitsu Saito

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi

One of the 5 great deities, Fudo Myoo threatening the young priest Yuten Shami from the series "Tales of the Floating World on Eastern Brocade" illustrating popular stories of drama and violence. Here the Buddhist divinity of fire threatens a young priest.

It dates from early in Yoshitoshi's career, when he was about twenty-eight.

The series contains popular stories of drama and violence by various story tellers, as retold by Kanagaki Robun, a native of Edo who was a writer of humorous and satirical fiction.

Publisher: Masudaya Ginjirō

Date: 1867

Condition: Good condition. Slightly cropped at top, backed on Edo era paper. It looks like some of the block colors were misaligned and some blocks were not printed by choice (alternate version) or accident.
