Nishigori Takekiyo Painting, - Handsome portrait of the former samurai Nishigori Takekiyo painting, a beauty at his side holding a roll of paper and a young girl mixing pigment in a bowl for him. Nishigori Takekiyo became a hero after going to court to free his former master, the daimyo Soma Tomotane, whose family had him declared mentally insane and later institutionalized him. In what became known as the "Soma Incident," Nishigori spent eight years in court trying to prove that Soma's family had illegally confined him in order to gain control of the family fortune. Although he eventually lost his case, the public praised Nishigori's actions. He kneels over his work, looking up with a rather distracted expression, surrounded by containers of brushes and paint, a finished painting leaning up against the wall behind him. An intriguing subject with delicate embossing on the beauty's white obi.
