Tadamasa was born Katsumi Ueno. His work combined images of popular Kabuki actors in key roles with western influences to create unique, prints. His first teacher, Torii Kiyotada, allowed Ueno to use ‘tada’, from his name, to form the basis of Ueno’s first name, Tadamasa.
