The samurai Yoshihiro attempting to assassinate prince Otonomiya Moriyoshi at Kamakura. A scene from the "Taihei-ki". The Prince was in his cave prison, reading Buddhist sutras by lamplight. This is a color, two page spread from Kuniyoshi's book featuring 100 warriors from history and legend. Almost all the ukiyo-e artists also illustrated books as well as designing woodblock prints and paintings.
