The full composition depicts the three actors in roles from the play Keisei Soga kuruwa kagami (Mirror of the Soga Tales from the Pleasure Quarters) as staged at the Ichimura Theater in 1867. Tanosuke III is in the role of the courtesan Komachi O-Shizu wearing a dragon design on her kimono.
