Toyohara Kunichika
One of our favorite series from Kunichika, "Thirty-six Modern Restaurants". It depicts beauties at popular Tokyo restaurants in different locations. Women are shown serving a meal, relaxing in the garden or on a verandah, or arriving or leaving a teahouse. These colorful designs are nicely detailed with handsome interior and exterior settings showing an interest in Western perspective.
This print is dedicated to the Kitsune (狐) restaurant in Shinbashi (新橋) and portrays, from left to right, Komatsu (小松) and Kotomi (小とみ), two entertainers of the Morita (守田) house.
Condition: Print color is fair. Print has been trimmed as shown and is partially glued to a thick piece of paper.
