Published in 1869, the series features individual portraits of each of the rōnin, complete with biographical details that bring these real-life samurai to life. Their story—an epic tale of loyalty, honor, and revenge—was a true historical event that captured the imagination of generations.

Yoshitoshi’s dynamic compositions show the rōnin in the midst of their famous night attack on Lord Kira’s mansion.
