Tsukioka Yoshitoshi
A bijin-ga (beautiful woman) print from the series; Beauties and Seven Flowers. This print is called "Plum". The print shows Nishinotoin Shigeko writing a poem. The family of Nishinotoin were well established aristocrats. This portrait would have served as a fashion plate for patriotic citizens and a glance into the inner circle of the Empress. The print has deluxe techniques, embossing can be seen in the collar of her kimono.
