Kunisada - Bando Hikosaburo V
Kunisada - Bando Hikosaburo V
Utagawa Kunisada
The kabuki actor: Bandō Hikosaburō V in the role of Onigatake Horaemon (鬼ヶ嶽洞右衛門). From the play: Sekitori Nidai no shobu zuke. From a series of half-length actor portraits with poem. The still-lifes in the top of the prints were designed by Gengyo Miyagi (in most cases).
Almost all of the prints are based on actual performances of the years 1861 and 1862; few of them seem to be "mitate" prints, meaning that the actors in the depicted roles are imagined and not really performed in a specific play.
