Twenty-four Generals of the Takeda Clan: Yamayoshi Gemba-no-jo Chikafusa from the series Stories of Courageous Generals of the Provinces of Echigo and Kai. During the mid-1500s, the rival daimyo Takeda Shingen of Kai Province and Uesugi Kenshin of Echigo Province fought five famous battles on the plain of Kawanakajima. Kuniyoshi presents portraits of samurai from both sides, with each general's affiliation indicated by a subtitle in the main cartouche that reads either "Twenty-four Generals of the Takeda Clan" or "Twenty-four Generals of the Uesugi Clan.
