Ashiyuki - Keisei Kakehashi Monogatari
Ashiyuki Gigado
Dramatic scene from the kabuki play Keisei Kakehashi Monogatari" at the Naka Theater in Osaka. In the center sheet stands the farmer Jusaku. At right, Ukisu no Iwamatsu glares back at him. At left, Jusaku's wife seems alarmed while their son Jukichi hops on one foot, his eyes wide. A willow tree frames a view of the water with a setting sun and Mt. Fuji in the distance. From left, the actors are Sawamura Kunitaro II, Arashi Kitsuzo, Arashi Kitsusaburo II, and Ichikawa Ebijuro.
Most Osaka kabuki prints were done in the smaller chuban size, so full oban format kamigata-e are rarely seen.
