Marigase Shuya climbing onto a rooftop to escape an attacker. From the series: 'Eimei nijūhasshūku (英名 二十八 衆句 - 28 Famous Murders with Verse)', of which Yoshitoshi produced half, with Yoshiiku being responsible for the others. The series contains illustrations of events which often have a historical background, and were usually well-known from kabuki and noh plays.

This is the series that started the genre of Muzan-e (bloody prints). Some of the blood was depicted using thick red glue, which at the time sparked rumors that real blood was used.
