Two travelers brace their umbrellas against a strong wind as the cross Izumi Bridge. The first Publication of this design was in the 1910's. We consider this print (After) Shotei since the publisher and publishing date can't be identified.
Hiroaki studied Japanese-style painting with his uncle. In 1891 he illustrated textbooks and newspaper novels, and began designing woodblocks for Watanabe Shozaburo. The blocks for all his prints were destroyed in the fire which swept through Watanabe’s workshop during the great Kanto earthquake. Hiroaki then resumed work for Watanabe and created about 250 more designs for scenery prints and the small greeting cards with which Watanabe rebuilt his export business.
